The Rotary Club of Thanet along with members of Broadstairs Inner Wheel were delighted to welcome Nick Turrell from the Kent Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance at our meeting on Monday 20th January 2025.
Nick spoke about how the Air Ambulance charity is funded (mostly from donations), as well as the statistics regarding the number of call outs, the area covered and how the service was planning for the future. This includes an extra Rapid Response vehicle used mostly when the Air Ambulance helicopter cannot attend due mainly to bad weather.
Future plans also include the possibility of using drones to drop medical equipment including defibrillators at the point of need as well as follow up care for those helped by the service and also accident prevention and first aid courses.
The evening concluded with a vote of thanks from Rotarian Robin Page who highlighted the work done by KS&S Air Ambulance and the need for support from the public and organizations such as our Rotary Club. Robin concluded “we never know when one day we or a member of our family may need urgent help and be thankful to the dedication of our local Air Ambulance service.”
The attached picture shows President of the Rotary Club of Thanet Maria Blacburn thanking Nick Turrell for talking to us.
The Club made a donation to the KS&S Air Ambulance before Christmas through Rotary District to help raise £50,000 for an extra Rapid response vehicle.
