ALADDIN
Friday 13th December was definitely NOT an unlucky evening. Some 150 mainly, from Millmead Centre, virtually filled the Sarah Thorne Theatre to see Aladdin and what a noise we made… and that was just the grown-ups! Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the show, put on by a cast who worked exhaustingly hard and succeeded in entertaining us especially in the second half.
Abanazar got us booing right from the off and Widow Twankey was especially strong.
For a moment I thought the traditional scene where we all shout “it’s behind you” wouldn’t happen, but then for reasons at the time not entirely clear, the genie had earlier conjured up a gorilla who ably filled the role of the ghost.
The smoke from the previous magic carpet in the clouds scene had not fully dissipated and the film Gorillas in the Mist came to mind. The costumes were great and so were the Masque Theatre School who provided the dancers.
This has become an annual institution and it is to hope the predicted demise of the Millmead Children’s Centre, the children from which we entertain, will not prevent this.
Well done to Jim and his Committee plus of course Michael Wheatley-Ward and his team.
We managed to consume 100 ice creams and if you haven’t yet been Aladdin is on at The Sarah Thorne Theatre in Broadstairs until the year end.
