The Rotary Club of Thanet has been working with schools across Thanet in the past two years to help improve literacy skills. Working with the English leads within schools to form bespoke book lists the Rotarians have partnered with Margate Book Shop to supply nearly 500 books across 6 schools. These schools have participated in the project:-
Royal Harbour, Charles Dickens, Dane Court, St George's, King Ethelbert and Hartsdown
In appreciation we are pleased to attach letters from Joanna Davis' Director of English at St George's School and Meg Humphreys Librarian :-

Dear all at the Rotary Club of Thanet
REF: BOOK DONATION
Thank you so much for the generous donations of books you have sent us in the last year.
As a school we have been blown away by your generosity. At St George’s Church of England Foundation School we believe reading is absolutely fundamental to pupils learning and we believe that all pupils should have the opportunity to flourish. Your kind donations of books have helped to secure a love of reading with our pupils, firstly by improving what we offer in the library. Pupils have engaged so well with this with over 20 Year 7 pupils reading more than 8 whole books already this academic year.
A second way you have helped us is through curiosity and independence gained by pupils having a new whole class reader provided by you. Pupils were fully engaged in the story and having a book each, led to them being able to follow on gaining skills of resilience and independence.
Finally, due to your most recent donation, we are now able to set up two book clubs, one for KS3 and one for KS4. We will keep you updated with or reading journey, but once again, thank you.Yours sincerely
Joanna Davis
Director of English St George's School
....and from Dane Court School:-I just wanted to say a massive thank you for all the books that were purchased for the school. The students are going to be absolutely delighted in getting some new books to read and I was blown away at how many there were! Thank you to the rotary club for being so generous and taking the time to get these books. Cannot put into words just how grateful we are.
Thank you again,
Meg
