The Rotary club of Thanet held an International weekend which started on Friday 19th May to Sunday 21st May 2013

It was the turn of the Rotary Club of Thanet to hold the International weekend where all three clubs, ourselves, Commine- Warneton in Belgium and Bourbourg in France get together for a weekend of fun, fellowship and outside visits to places of interest.
The Friday evening was hosted by a club member on the North Foreland estate with outside caterers serving drinks and light bites to 50 Rotarians and their partners. A very enjoyable evening was had by all.
On Saturday we departed Ramsgate at 0900 for Greenwich, arriving around 10.30 where we walked through Greenwich Park to the Royal Observatory, followed by another shorter walk down the hill to the Queen’s House and the National Maritime Museum.
Unfortunately, the Queen’s House was closed for a private function, however some members had already decided that liquid refreshments in Greenwich market, followed by lunch seemed a good option!
Everybody needed to assemble outside the Cutty Sark entrance at 3pm as we had a visit to the museum as a group. Prior to that there was plenty of ‘free time’ to wander around the market, have lunch and visit the Maritime Museum.
After an hour walking around the Cutty Sark,(and also down into the dry dock) we headed back to the coach pick up. The coach had mechanical problems so an hour was lost whilst waiting for another coach to arrive and pick us up!
Arriving back in Thanet at 18.30, we only had an hour before we had to be at North Foreland Golf Club for pre dinner drinks in the upper bar. We were able to show off the wonderful views overlooking the golf course, on a lovely spring evening with the sun shining over the course and sea.
Following on from drinks upstairs we all enjoyed an excellent 3 course dinner downstairs in the restaurant. Well done to all the staff at the golf club for a very enjoyable evening.
Sunday morning was spent with hosts and their guests, some going for coastal walks, before the President’s lunch which took place at St Augustine’s at 1230.
This event was very well attended with quite a few members who were not able to take part in the Friday or Saturday, being there on Sunday.
St Augustine’s produced an excellent meal for almost 100 people which was well presented and served.
Our continental friends had to leave after the meal to catch the ferry back to France so missed the entertainment by Greg Tasell who sang a broad selection of songs which were well known by all.
All in all, a very busy but most successful and enjoyable weekend which was helped by the excellent warm sunny weather conditions throughout the weekend.

The Rotary Club of Thanet has raised £636.50 through Graham Channon who was last year’s Master at Arms. At Grahams discretion this amount was donated to The MS Society, a charity close to his and our members hearts.
