Our president John Reid gave this tribute to David at the funeral on Friday 12th May 2023.
David was a good friend and I am very pleased to say a few words about him. When considering how best to do this I decided to compare his life to a cake and a very nice one at that!
Really, not being greedy, I can only take a couple of slices and they relate to Banking and Rotary. I was his Bank Manager and whilst we don’t actually sign a hypocratic oath, clearly I cannot divulge information, save to say that he was a very good client! So that has to be only a very thin slice!
It was however through that connection that I came to introduce him into Thanet Rotary Club in the year 2000. He was an excellent member. Very popular and full of good ideas, such as introducing our annual boxing fund-raising event together with Ramsgate Boxing Club down at the Winter Gardens. This ran for some 14 years and raised £440k for local charities. An amazing figure and he was very much a part of the organising committee.
He was our President in the year 2005/6 and the boxing started during his year in 2006. The highest honour a Rotary Club can confer on a member is to award a Paul Harris Fellowship named after the man who started Rotary in Chicago in 1905. David received this award in 2005 and very well deserved it was.
David all who knew you loved you and you are greatly missed.
