The Sea Cadet Corps aims to give local young people an experience that will help them grow in to the person they want to be in a safe and friendly environment. Through various activities and adventures cadets learn teamwork, respect, loyalty, self-confidence, commitment, self-discipline, honesty, and how to be the best version of themselves. The Corps offers a range of activities from sailing, windsurfing, and powerboating to rock climbing, camping and music – and much more.
It came to the notice of the Youth Services Committee that some of the Newhaven and Seaford Corps staff had qualified as fitness trainers and were keen to add fitness training to their programme to promote physical fitness and health awareness. To help this initiative they wished to obtain some kick-start physical training equipment to enable them to include PT training each week as part of the regular programme. They had already devised a training plan designed to ensure this new initiative was introduced to cadets in an incremental way with targets to measure progress. The Youth Services Committee was pleased to support this addition to the existing programme and President Clive Livingstone and Youth Services Chair Paul Vaesen went along to the unit during one of their training evenings to present a cheque to them.
