Santa also supported the Mayor as she switched on the Christmas lights in Broad Street at the “Seaford Magic” event. As always it was lovely to see the excitement on the children’s faces and the joy of their parents and carers as the children talked to and received their “magic sweets” from Santa.
The weather during the month was generally pleasant, although there was some very wet weather on the evening of Thursday 7th December when even the sleigh was flooded and the whole collecting team were soaked due to the torrential rain. There were some strong winds in the later weeks and during the Saturday collections in Broad Street. As usual Santa’s elves thick clothing, waterproof gloves and strong shoes kept their fingers and toes warm.
This year, as before, we have had help from very many Volunteers and Friends for which we are extremely grateful and sincerely thank them all for their enthusiastic participation. They occupied 131 (74%) of the 171 collecting slots. We look forward to working with them again in 2024. Several have already indicated to us their wish to help in 2024.
Despite the financial constraints of high energy costs plus inflation, we are astounded at the generosity of the people of Seaford yet again as the street cash collections have raised £13,580 for the Seaford Rotary Charitable Trust - this is 7% higher than last year and included one night when the sum collected exceeded £1000. When donations made by card payments and through the Seaford Rotary Just Giving Page are included the total raised was an incredible £14,086. All the money raised will be used for supporting both local and international charities.
All at Seaford Rotary thank everyone who donated their time to help with the collections or has generously donated.
