Keith Carlisle 50 Years Service Celebration
ON WEDNESDAY 19th July, members and guests attended a lunch held to celebrate 50 years membership of the Rotary Club of Seaford by Past President Keith Carlisle, PHF.
In 1972 Keith, who celebrated his 90th birthday in November last year, was appointed to be Headmaster of the comprehensive school to be developed from Seaford County Secondary School, the new school to be renamed Seaford Head School. Having brought his family to Seaford, he soon became a well-respected member of the community and was invited to become a member of the Rotary Club of Seaford. He was duly elected as a member on 6th July 1973, the same day as Past President Roy Charlwood, the late father of this year’s President Mandy.
Keith has always been a very active Rotarian and became President of the Rotary Club of Seaford for the Rotary Year 1980/81, the year that the Rotaract Club of Seaford was formed, and at which the Charter Night dinner was attended by sixty prospective members including a young Mandy Charlwood.
Keith married Rosemary in 1955, and she has supported him throughout his 50 years in Rotary.
The end of year celebration of his Presidency took place in the garden of 8, Heathfield Road, Keith and Rosemary’s home, in the presence of many Rotarians and their families with lots of children playing in groups on the lawn.
In January 2003, the Club awarded Keith a Paul Harris Fellowship in recognition of his significant contribution to Rotary and to the Community of Seaford through Seaford Head School and the Methodist Church. Throughout Keith’s fifty years of membership, he has chaired most committees and has accumulated a wealth of Rotary knowledge which he is always willing to share with new members.
Keith was congratulated on becoming the fourth member in the Club’s 75-year history to have achieved the fantastic 50 year milestone. (The other three are Roy Gentry, Geoff Lowles and John Preddy).
Among the guests at the lunch were three ladies, Dawn Hatley, Wendy Charlwood and Ann Thompson, who Keith had invited, all members of Seaford Inner Wheel. Their husbands, Ron, Roy and Michael respectively, sadly no longer with us, had been Rotarians, and had had a very particular significance for Keith during his 50 years in the Club. Roy had joined Rotary on the same day as Keith, and their Rotary life had been parallel to each other.
Keith recalled events from his 50 years before concluding “I have enjoyed my time in Seaford Rotary, and I look forward to a bright and positive future for the Club.”
President Mandy Davis then presented Keith with a unique framed certificate to commemorate his long uninterrupted 50 years of service, and a framed congratulatory letter from Gordon McInally, President Rotary International 2023/24.

Beachy Head ‘Blast’
more The walk on 10th September from Beachy Head tavern was a replacement for the intended walk from the Plough and Harrow, Littlington deferred due to several days of rain which made the Cuckmere river bank walk extremely muddy and slippery.
Sizzling BBQ
more On a very warm day at the end of July, President Clive Livingstone hosted a BBQ in his garden attended by 45 Rotarians, their wives, partners, family and friends, and three canine family members.
President’s Evening and Handover
more THE LAST meeting of the 2023/24 Rotary year was held on Friday 28th June 2024. As annually at the end of June Seaford Rotary Club changes its Club President, the Presidential handover also took place.
A Flying Visit!
more Last February, we were entertained at a lunchtime meeting by Pete Fellows with his talk ‘A Life of Flying at Shoreham Airport’. Following this some members expressed an interest in a guided tour of the facility.

Hot Rodmell Walk
more Unfortunately, for various reasons many of our “regulars” were unable to join us on our walk starting from the Abergavenny Arms in Rodmell, but nine members, partners and friends met in the car park as arranged.

New Year's Day Walk 2024

Walk at Whitbread Hollow, Eastbourne

more IN THE early evening on Friday 18th August a group of 37 Rotarians including Seaford Martello President Jackie Arkwell and 4 other Martello Rotarians, Partners and friends gathered in the rear garden of Janice Vince’s house for the annual Rotary BBQ.

Seaford B skittles team pinned down and out by big freeze at The Fountain
more Seaford Rotary’s B team ‘skittlers’ literally froze at the Fountain Inn, Ashurst on a cold, damp evening on January 25th and were removed from the District competition by Godalming Woolsack C who scored a resounding 207-191 victory.

more On 26th July the conditions were perfect, another dry day, but rather cloudy with a refreshing breeze rather than a hot wind off the Sahara! desert! We met at the Barley Mow in Selmeston; our group comprising 12 human walkers and 2 dogs.

more DESPITE COVID infection numbers being quite high when we started our Rotary Coffee Mornings at The View, they have proved quite popular. They are a simple pleasure, uncomplicated: turn up from 10.30 onwards.
Walk from Litlington
more AFTER THE recent bright and sunny mornings it was disappointing that Tuesday 10th May dawned cloudy. This, however, did not deter 14 Rotarians and friends plus two dogs from assembling in the car park of the Plough and Harrow pub in Litlilington.
