Support for Down Syndrome Development Trust Continues
ONE CHARITY that Seaford Rotary Club has been pleased to support over the last ten years is the Down Syndrome Development Trust and this year Youth Services was pleased to be able to help one of their latest initiatives with a grant of £500.
The Trust is an innovative charity that exists to improve the lives of people with Down Syndrome in Sussex. It offers a diverse range of support services and specialist interventions for children and young people living with Down Syndrome.
One of the reasons which make this a charity easy to support is the way they aim to develop the children’s skills by providing them with tailor-made opportunities to grow and thrive. One way of successfully developing these skills is provided by the sailing sessions organised in conjunction with the Newhaven and Seaford Sailing Club, which has proved so beneficial since they were first introduced in 2020.
Outdoor play has a fundamental role in the early development of all children and has proven benefits in engaging children with Special Educational Needs. During the summer months when it is so important for the children to reconnect with nature, their communities, and enjoy creative outdoor environments our grant will provide the opportunity for seven young people from this area to access sailing and powerboating twice a month.
