On
a crisp, fresh morning on Sunday 5th May 2019, over 200 runners took part in
Leatherhead Rotary's eleventh annual Bluebell 10k charity run on Headley Heath.
First across the finish line was Andrew Wareham in a
time of 36 minutes and 19 seconds, with Phil Payne and Neal Jacobs taking
second and third place, with times of 37 minutes and 44 seconds, and 38 minutes
and 35 seconds respectively.
Winner of the ladies’ race was Kim Lo, in a time of 42 minutes and 52 seconds,
with Polly Jacobs and Eugenia Jackman in second and third place respectively,
with times of 44 minutes and 14 seconds, and 46 minutes and 18 seconds.
Prizes were awarded for the first five places in both the men's and
women's events, with the winner of each event also receiving a trophy. Everyone
who completed the distance received a medal in recognition of their
achievement!
A special award was also made to 12-year-old Cameron Jacobs, the youngest runner taking part, who finished in 35th place overall in a very impressive time of 48 minutes and 46 seconds!
It is hoped that the event will also have raised over £2,500 for the East
Surrey Branch of the Motor Neurone Disease Association, the Rotary Club’s
current ‘charity of the year’, with many of the runners raising additional
money for their own chosen charities through personal sponsorship.
Rotarian Adrian O'Loughlin, who organised and also took part in the event, said
he was delighted with the number of people taking part also the amount raised.
Leatherhead Rotary Club would also like to thank the main event sponsors: TWM
Solicitors and Fitstuff; the race organisers, Mike Gratton and 2:09 Events; the
National Trust for very kindly allowing the use of Headley Heath for the event,
and also all the club members and friends who helped out on the day as
marshals.
