The Rotary Club of Burnham on Crouch and Dengie Hundred are proud to be championing BanktheFood (Charity Commission for England and Wales Number 1194167)
BanktheFood which is a Burnham on Crouch based charity, has developed a simple app, which acts as a vehicle to unite shoppers with their supermarkets and local food banks to ensure food banks always have exactly what they need, when they need and the app is freely available across the UK.
The idea for the app, came from a group of primary school children, in Southend, while working with their local food bank. The children found there is a desperate need for this app, purely because food banks were often reporting that they were receiving too much of one product and not enough of another.
Shoppers often donate at the end of their shop after they have been through the tills, donating as a well-meaning afterthought, but often not the products that are needed. BanktheFood sends a helpful reminder on shoppers’ phones as they enter the doors of their supermarkets; the precise time they need the reminder, ensuring that the donations that go into the collection points are exactly what is needed at any given time.
The app is free to use and always will be.
Bank the Food was recently awarded Huawei @AppsUp2021 Best Social Impact App in Europe
Please download the app and follow your closest food bank using the postcode finder.
The charity are working hard to register all food banks onto the app, but they are not there yet! If you local food bank is not yet on the app, please tell them all about BanktheFood.
