Speaker Janet Brewer
Sailors. Soldiers, Airmen & Families Association (SSAFA)
Janet Brewer, the Havering representative for Havering gave an interesting talk on the work of this 127 year old Charity, beginning with its formation and early history, working through the two world wars up to the present time.Offering welfare, social services, health care, housing and respite breaks to around 50,000 ex-servicemen and their families each year, the Charity is as relevant today as in its early days and, despite some 8,000 volunteers drawing only expenses, fundraising is remains of paramount importance. For more information see the SSAFA website. www.ssfa.org.uk
