Prestwick Rotarians were recently treated to a talk from Prestwick residents Douglas and Jean Inness on their charity called 'Pass it on Trust Uganda'. Prestwick Rotary Club members have supported this charity since 2015, and now sponsor 6 children. It is a registered non-profit organisation founded in January 2014. The charity aims are to be a catalyst of change, to fight against early and forced child marriage, and to efficiently promote social and economic development.
'Pass it On Trust Uganda' supports two rural Community Schools in Uganda - Shammah Primary and Nursery School in The Soroti District, and Good Hope Nursery and Primary School in The Wakiso District. Education in Uganda is not free. Poverty means that many parents cannot afford to send their children to Government-run schools. Many parents are subsistence farmers. Education is vital for such marginalised children.
Pass It On Trust Uganda has grown significantly in the past 4 years and has also helped a number of social enterprises grow on both communities: mini-bakeries, a small shop, a tailoring group, a pig rearing venture and a small area of cultivation.
Douglas and Jean received a hearty vote of thanks from Prestwick Rotarians for all their dedication and hard work. For more information, visit the charity on facebook.
