The Sighthill stone circle, which Duncan Lunan designed and built for Glasgow Parks Department in 1979, was located in Sighthill Park, due north of George Square and overlooking the M8, and it was the first astronomically aligned circle in the UK for over 3000 years.
A lot has been learned from it. In 2012 it was announced that it would be removed as part of the redevelopment of the area, but an online petition to save it drew 6500 signatures, and at that point I was commissioned to find a new site and redesign the stone circle for it.
The stones were removed in 2016 and re-erected at the new site in 2019, since when they have been landscaped into their new setting, but are still fenced off because it will still be within a construction site until some time next year. However there is a lot more interest in it this time round.
