Weekly Meeting with Jack McPhail - Visitors welcome

Thu, Nov 21st 2019 at 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

Rotarian responsible for speaker Margaret Clark

Speaking to us last week was Jack McPhail, otherwise known as Miss Sasha Blaze, who gave us a rich insight into his alter ego. Jack has been doing drag for around 3 years, performing all over the UK. Through hosting shows he decided to go down the comedian route of performing.

Jack has been ‘on stage’ at several festivals over the years and next year is hoping to perform at the Manchester, Brighton and Edinburgh Fringe as part of the summer Tour of his new show “Still Fat! Still Single!”

Doing his shows has given him the chance to perform in theatres, bars and clubs around the UK as well as the 02 in Manchester and London. In addition this summer he performed at over 10 different Gay Pride Festivals. Included in this was Ayrshire’s first LGBT Pride week which was organised by him and a small group of people. This led to a larger group now organising for Ayrshire Pride 2020 to make it bigger and better than before.

Finally Jack explained how Drag and performing has helped him overcome a lot of aspects in his life such as anxiety and lack of confidence.

A vote of thanks was proposed by Margaret Kirkwood.

Our picture shows Jack with President David and Margaret Clark, whose guest speaker he was. There are also a couple of photos of Miss Sasha Blaze.
