West Kilbride P7 Leavers Ceremony 2024

There was a surprise in store for West Kilbride Primary pupils when members of the Rotary Club of Hunterston arrived to present their triumphant quiz team with a very special award.

Four pupils from the winning Primary 7 team were officially recognised for their success in the grand final of Rotary's first-ever Scotland Southern Inaugural District Primary School competition, held recently in Stirling.

The team of Arran Fox, Liam Keane, Isla Wilson and Jamie Shelley were honoured at a ceremony at the school last week when they received the specially designed trophy.

Making the presentation at the school’s morning assembly, Alex Blair, former Hunterston Rotary president, praised the team’s achievements. He said: “In recognition of the team’s outstanding performances throughout this competition, Rotary commissioned this unique glass trophy which shall be retained in perpetuity by the school"
"This was a significant achievement by these four young people and we congratulate them wholeheartedly.”

Also attending the presentation was Hunterston Rotary Club’s newly elected president, Norman Whyte, who added: “Young people deserve to be recognised when achieving such honours". "We are delighted that these four pupils from West Kilbride went on from their success locally here in North Ayrshire to triumph over stiff competition from 11 other teams in the 2024 Scottish Southern District final.”

West Kilbride Primary head Teacher Gemma Carson added: 

“This team worked extremely hard to win this competition. It is a proud moment for the school and a wonderful legacy to leave as the two P7 classes have now finished their primary education and go forward to their higher educations. The trophy will be given pride of place within the school. We would like to thank Hunterston Rotary Club for organising what is a wonderful schools quiz event.”

The club confirmed that this popular primary school quiz will be held again in 2025 and details will be announced towards the end of this year.
