Rotary PSQ Ayrshire Area Final, 13th May 2026
On Wednesday 13th May 11 teams of schoolchildren from Ayrshire schools met in the Volunteer Rooms in Irvine to compete in Rotary South of Scotland’s Primary School Quiz, area heat, to win a place in the District Final at the end of the month.
These teams were the finalists from the club competitions sponsored by the rotary clubs of CKC, Irvine Seagate, Kilmarnock, Prestwick and Troon. The competitors were teams of four P6/P7 pupils from the following schools. Annanhill, Annick, Barassie, Gargieston, Glebe, Lawthorn, Kincase, Onthank, St Peter’s, Troon and West Kilbride.
The Quiz consisted of 10 rounds of 6 questions, with subjects ranging from Technology to Literature and Films. All the pupils did well in the quiz, but at times, there were some perplexed looks on the faces of the Rotarian helpers, and some of the audience who had come along to support children.
After a close competition, there were three teams, separated by only four points, that won the right to go forward to compete in the District Final which will take place in Kirkintilloch Town Hall on Saturday 30th May. The finalist were; Annanhill, Kilmarnock RC, Troon, Troon RC, and West Kilbride, CKC Rotary.
West Kilbride’s team of Angus Cooper, Alexander Dailly, Finn Livingston and Kerr Wilson were the winners of the Area Final.
Hazel McCully, Assistant District Governor for District 1320, South of Scotland, congratulated the winners, and presented all the teams with certificates for reaching and participating in this competition. Hazel has also by being one of the adjudicators throughout the various stages of this quiz.
All the pupils were a credit to their respective schools and great competitors. The audience was also very well behaved. The Rotary organisers would like to thank everyone who attended, and the school staff who helped make this another successful Primary Schools Quiz.
