Club Meeting — Cheque Presentations

Tue, Oct 22nd 2019 at 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Cheques were presented from the proceeds of the 75th D-Day Anniversary Concert in the Victoria Hall on June 6.

President Douglas Dow welcomed 13 other members and guests Robert Colgrave, Scottish and Northern England representative for Help the Heroes, and Lieutenant Commander Julian Rogers, conductor of the HMS Neptune Volunteer Band.

Attendance sheets were passed round for the first time for two annual events, the Wine Tasting in the Commodore Hotel at 7pm on Friday November 15, cost £15 per head, and the joint Christmas Dinner organised by the Helensburgh Garelochside Rotary Club in the Rosslea Hall Hotel, Rhu, on Monday December 16 at 6.30 for 7pm, cost £30 per head.

Robert Colgrave told how Help for Heroes has grown rapidly from when it began ten years ago, and it now runs four recovery centres, catering for veterans from any conflict. The president presented him with a cheque for £800 from the 75th D-Day Anniversary Concert proceeds.

Lt Cdr Rogers spoke about the HMS Neptune Volunteer Band, which he described as an 'ageing but enthusiastic' band of musicians. While its primary purpose is to provide music when required at HM Naval Base Clyde, they were happy to recruit any musicians, whether service or civilian.

"We really appreciated the terrific response from the audience at the concert," he said.

The president presented him with a cheque for £300 which will be used by the Neptune Central Amenities Fund which supports navy personnel and their families in the Helensburgh area through the provision of facilities and arranging activities.

The winner of the weekly draw for a whisky miniature was president Douglas Dow.
