Club Meeting — Presidential Handover and District Governor's Visit

Tue, Jul 23rd 2019 at 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Outgoing president Mike Jane handed over to his successor, Douglas Dow. District Governor Jimmy Johnston attended the club lunch and updated members about the rotary year ahead.

Outgoing president Mike Jane welcomed thirteen other members and District Governor Jimmy Johnston MBE, who was paying his official visit to the club. He began the handover ceremony by thanking all the members for their support, and in particular the organisers of the many events run during the year, and said that this had made his term of office very enjoyable.

He presented the president's chain of office to his successor, Douglas Dow. The new senior vice-president is Derek Hall, with Reay Mackay becoming junior vice-president. Douglas presented Mike with a past president's jewel and badge, and congratulated him for his service to the club in what he considered to be a distinguished year — and also for recruiting three new members.

The District Governor spoke on the topic 'What have you done to make you feel proud?'. He said that rotarians should be proud of what they had achieved locally, nationally and internationally, with rotary a world in which people unite and take action.

The aims for the year ahead are to increase the impact of rotary, expand the movement's reach, engage in changing the environment, and increase rotary's ability to adapt to a changing world. He also hoped to see more men and women of different nationalities and backgrounds join rotary in Scotland.

He said: "Be bold, be brave, learn to think differently. I challenge you to do something in 2019-20 to make you feel proud."
