President Mike Jane welcomed fourteen other members, and said that he had visited Tarbet on Thursday to present the Primary 7 Quiz trophies to the winning Arrochar Primary School team and headteacher Alison Palmer. They go forward to the District 1230 final in Glasgow next month.
A message of thanks from District Governor Jim Ross for the welcome he received at the club last Tuesday was read out by the secretary. He commented on the friendship clearly evident within the club.
Gordon Burgess read a letter written in 1999 to his sister written by his son Craig, who was working as a doctor for Medecins Sans Frontieres in Myanmar, formerly Burma. He wrote about the charity's efforts to improve healthcare in the area, and in particular the plight of the Rohingya people, a stateless Indo-Aryan ethnic group — whose lot has not improved since then. Bill Jones propsed the vote of thanks.
The weekly raffle for a whisky miniature was won by the president.
