President Gordon Burgess welcomed twelve other members and guest speaker Phil Worms of Helensburgh Heroes.
Adam Muggoch reported that the Young Photographer competition had been judged on Sunday by Brian Averell and Donald Fullarton, who had a difficult task, especially with the 24 senior entries. Prizes went to a good spread of schools.
Douglas Dow thanked everyone who took part in moving a large number of books from Lesley Kennedy's garage to the Salvation Army shop last Tuesday. Preparations for the Bridge Night in aid of Mercy Ships in Helensburgh Rugby Club on Friday March 2 were in hand, with seven tables taken so far. He hoped that at least three more tables will be taken.
Adam Muggoch invited Phil Worms to speak about the Helensburgh Heroes project. He spoke about its inception 19 years ago and progress since then, including several setbacks in finding premises.
This has included trying to prepare a Heroes Centre in George Street, which remains a target and for which a large proportion of the funding was in place, and the creation in November last year of a smaller centre in Sinclair Street which includes, retail, displays, and a 1950s style Huckstars Cafe as a tribute to film star Deborah Kerr.
In the future it is hoped to develop the educational aspect of the project through offering mentoring and the premises becoming a Young Persons Hub. "The whole thing is about inspiration," he said, "by using the stories of how other local people who have achieved success in many fields."
The vote of thanks was proposed by Lesley Kennedy.
