The meeting was chaired by president John McCormick and there were 17 present, including the two guest speakers from Parklands School and a delegation of four from Clydebank Rotary Club, led by president-elect Barbara Thomson.
After the meal a very interesting talk was given by the head teacher, Gwen Gilmour, who was supported by the chair of the Parents Council, Julie Ward.
Gwen described the work done at Parklands, a special needs school which currently has 11 pupils who all have complex additional support needs. The school takes Argyll and Bute pupils from 5 through to 19 years of age.
The aim is the ensure that, to the greatest extent possible for each individual, pupils are educated and trained to achieve independence in the adult world when they leave Parklands.
In recent years it had seemed as though Argyll and Bute Council were considering the school for closure. Fortunately, through the efforts of the Parents Council and the school's circle of supporters, a decision was taken to keep the school open.
At the beginning of this year a new head teacher, Gwen, was appointed and more recently two additional teachers have been recruited.
The vote of thanks was given by Adam Muggoch, and the weekly draw for a whisky miniature was won by Gordon Burgess.
