Hugh Monahan building a replica of John Wilson's Printing Press

The club members were fascinated last night by a focussed talk by Hugh Monahan about the printing press used to print the first edition of the Poems of Robert Burns. This first edition was printed by John Wilson using a printing press of the time. Hugh advised that it was an idea of Robert Kirkwood to make a replica of a printing press that would have been used to print that first edition.
After some research it was established that detailed drawings had been produced and were available at the Smithsonian Institute in Washington DC. Copies of these drawings were obtained and Hugh having the necessary skills offered to build a replica press. After a search for funding the Heritage Lottery provided
