Joan McLeod Yorkhill Hospital

This evening Rotarians were delighted to welcome Joan MacLeod who is a fund raiser for Yorkhill Hospital and the Queen Mothers Hospital. The funds being raised to provide those extras that can make the stay in hospital a little more than getting through each day for that next round of treatment. One example of the use of funds raised was bringing in entertainers that include Clowns, Magicians and Musicians who put on shows for the children and Joan made us understand how this can create an escape for the children to forget their illness, at least for a short while.
Joan reminded us that long stays in Hospital can lead to children becoming distant from family and friends and it seemed an excellent project to provide a medical lecture theatre that can convert to a cinema where the children can invite their friends along to a show and still for them to be in a safe environment with the necessary medical support near to hand should they be needed.
