Graham McLachlan came for his third visit to the club, a welcome return. We knew that Graham was going to have us fully alert and interested. This time his subject was the history of the railways. The first railway line was for push carts in the late 16th century. The first steam engine was the Stevenson brothers about 1816. The first passenger line was between Stockton and Darlington and by the end of the century there was in excess of 36,000 miles of track worldwide.
All in all a very interesting talk enjoyed by all present
