Journey Thru Time, Yarrows, BAE Bill Mitchell

Thu, Mar 15th 2007 at 12:00 am - 2:00 am

What a fasinating talk. Bill Mitchell brought the history of Yarrows to life. He showed some wonderful photos of boats built from its earlier days through to the modern frigates of today. Yarrows started off in a small yard in London. It was when, in desperation, a new type of steam launch was developed, using a modular construction, that Yarrows came in to its own. The order books were full and the yard extended. Cost in Lodon were high so a move to Glasgow took place. Here the went from strength to strength and are now the only large shipyard left on the upper Clyde.
