Brief History

Some information on, mostly, the early years of the club.

Although the inaugural meeting of the Rotary Club of Glasgow was held on 12th March 1912, the Charter date of Club No 5 in Glasgow is 4th May 1914, the first in Scotland.  No 5 refers to its place in what was then the British Association of Rotary Clubs, now Rotary International in Great Britain and Ireland (R.I.B.I.).  The International Charter refers to Club No 60 of the International Association of Rotary Clubs (R.I.), as The Rotary Club of Glasgow, Scotland and this Charter is dated 5 April 1915.

Since its formation in 1912 the Glasgow Club has seen the Charter of 15 Daughter Clubs, Dumfries, Inverness, Hamilton, Kilmarnock, Paisley, Rutherglen, Queens Park, Kelvin, Rothesay, Govan, Greenock, Dennistoun, Glasgow North & Bishopbriggs, Eastwood and Charing Cross.  From there have evolved 26 G. Daughter Clubs, 23, G. G. Daughters, 13 G.G.G. Daughters and a number of G.G.G.G. Daughters and G.G.G.G.G. Daughters.
