One of the most popular East Kilbride Rotary Club Friday lunch meetings is the visit of 5th and 6th pupils from the local high schools. Last Friday Jill Dodds brought along pupils of Calderglen High, Susan Woodhouse, Findlay Trough and Peter Retson and Ingrid Boyd, Deputy Head of Duncanrig Secondary accompanied Denise Matinbara, Jack MacGuire and Amy Coster. The final 3 pupils were Luke Crossan, Jonathan Little and Viktoria Makelova from St Andrews and St Brides High School supervised by Sharon McLean. The pupils are encouraged to mingle among the Rotarians for advice on their chosen careers. The adage there is no such thing as a free meal held firm as each pupil introduced themselves and talked for 3 or 4 minutes on what they are doing to help in the school and community and their own plans for the future. In his vote of thanks Ray Porrelli commented on the extensive work done by all the pupils helping in not only the local community but journeying as far as Africa to help build schools while keeping up with all their studies. Despite the recent PISA report our schools are in in safe hands producing pupils with high attainment, ethics and sound morals, schools East Kilbride should be proud of.
