Polio Eradication

Our goal of ridding the world of Polio is closer than ever.

For over 35 years, Rotary and its members have been committed to fighting to eradicate polio across the world.

Rotary is a founding partner of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative and jointly we've reduced polio cases by 99.9 percent since our first project to vaccinate children in the Philippines in 1979.

The Purple4Polio activities suggested by Rotary in Great Britain and Ireland are to raise funds and awareness for End Polio Now.

When a child receives their life-saving polio drops on mass polio immunisation days, their little finger is painted with a purple dye so it is clear they have received their polio vaccine.

Rotary, along with schools and other local groups, helps raise awareness (and funds) by annually planting crocus corms.

Our club is proud to be a part of this scheme.
