Who are Tools For Self Reliance?
In 1980, Tools for Self Reliance was formally registered as a charity with the mandate of working with local organisations to relieve poverty amongst the local African population.
Their partners in the various countries where they operate deliver training programmes which include technical trade skills, business and financial management, health awareness and life skills. Upon completion, trainees receive a start up kit of tools, and are supported in forming their own businesses.
Today, there are hundreds of volunteers in Tools for Self Reliance groups all over the UK, collecting and refurbishing tools, raising money and publicising their work.
Recently we collected a total of fourteen boxes of tools, a workmate bench and seven sewing machines.
The tools will not only provide opportunities for people to learn a trade such as carpentry, tailoring, welding and bricklaying but provide them with a skill for life.
After training the graduates are donated tool kits which together with lessons on business management enable them to set up their own business and become self-reliant.
