School Litter Pick 2024
Rotarian Danny Thompson, with support from President Karen Alderton and President Elect Geoff Snare, joined staff and parents as they led Mapplewells Primary School children on a litter pick at their nearby Blue Bell Way playing field.
Year 5/6 teacher Mrs Marta Warren told us "The children loved the activity and are already asking when they can go again."
In the classroom before the litter pick, Rotarian Danny demonstrated to the children the dangers that discarded litter can bring to wildlife and how important it is to respect our community and our neighbourhood by taking our litter home.
Rotarian Danny added ""It’s all about education, there is no need to see loads of rubbish on our streets and parks, and the local council can only do so much. If we can get the youngsters interested and they go home and tell their mums and dads, they start talking about it. We need to get people interested in their own communities, instead of discarding litter.”
