There are many ways to fund raise for charities. One Nottingham Rotary club member combines a winter holiday in a warm climate with running a half marathon for Nottingham charities.
And this week Rotarian James Thornhill was able to present £400 to local homeless charity Emmanuel House. “This is my third half marathon fund raise”, said 74-year-old James. “Last year it was Lisbon and the year before Athens and this year we went to Gran Canaria.”
“It helps to keep you fit. But training around Wollaton in the Winter can be a bit miserable so it is good to go somewhere warm. I also find it very motivating to run for a charity and know you will be helping people who need help.”
Eve Codrington, fund raising officer at Emmanuel House said. “James was the first fund raiser to do a sponsored event for us in 2017. We really appreciate his support and that of Nottingham Rotary Club. The money raised will make a huge difference for a small charity like Emmanuel House.”
Emmanuel House is an independent charity that exists to support homeless, vulnerable or isolated adults in Nottingham aged 18 or over. Around 70 people visit the support centre in Goosegate each day and no one is turned away.
They provide essential survival services such as hot food and drinks, clean clothes and a hot shower. In Winter they run emergency accommodation shelters in local church halls with volunteers. You can find out more at www.emmanuelhouse.org.uk or Emmanuel House Support Centre on Facebook.
