A cutting from a recent newspaper

From the September 2005 Bulletin:

This is Worthing, you can’t wear that.

Scantily clad young women on a carnival float proved too much for a South Coast resort.

The girls, in hotpants and basques, were ordered to cover up by police as they boarded a lingerie shop’s float for the Rotary Club’s annual carnival in Worthing, West Sussex.

"You can get away with it along the coast in Brighton but this is good old-fashioned Worthing" said Sgt. Andy Westwood, who ordered the eight women to put on more clothes.

(Slightly lost for words for a change, but what a spoil sport. Perhaps he was concerned at lowering the average age in Worthing at one go or maybe the Rotary Club hadn’t informed the hospital of possible extra heart attacks with their Risk Assessment. Definitely that club requires some members from the Police Force. Our intrepid TRIO should be asked to look at the possibilities of holding a similar event here in vibrant and swinging Durham!!!
