Every year, Rotary Clubs throughout Great Britain and Ireland work with the Stroke Association to run Blood Pressure Awareness Days raising the awareness of the risks of a stroke as a result of abnormal blood pressure.
With the kind permission of St. Nicholas Church, just off the Market Place in Durham, we worked with the
County Durham Stroke Club and measured the blood pressure of a total of 123 people. Of these, 29 were advised to refer to their GP within one month and four were advised to see their GP as soon as possible. Even if only one of these people avoid a stoke as a result of our efforts, it will have been truly worthwhile.
