Our Headline Charities this year are:-
1Voice North East | |
St. Margaret's Centre, Durham |
Together with the City of Durham Mayor's Charity - the Tree Tops Children's Unit at the University Hospital of North Durham
The Mayor blows the whistle to start the Swimathon - the first two teams were "The Triers" (Club members) and "The Fishermen" (from the Teikyo University in Durham).
By a happy coincidence Jean Thompson, our District Governor Elect, came along to support her granddaughter, Jenny Thompson, who was swimming in one of the teams entered by the
Durham High School for Girls.
Our decision to restrict the event to one day this year proved a success as the pool was full of activity all day. There was a great atmosphere as the different teams and their supporters all came together.
The teams taking part were:-
The Rotary Triers (from our Club)
The Fishermen (Teikyo University in Durham)
Framwellgate School
St. Leonard's School (six teams!)
One Voice North East (two teams)
Eddy's Angels
Tree Tops (two teams)
The Swans (Rotary Club of Durham Elvet)
Finchale College (three teams)
St. Oswald's Church
Durham High School for Girls (three teams)
Down's Syndrome North East (for teams - The Jets, Splashers, Dolphins & Butterflies)
St. Margaret's Centre.
We thank them all for their efforts.
We won't know the total collected until early in the new year, when all the sponsor monies are collected - but, as usual, we'll have a big hand-out event in March.
Meanwhile, enjoy the slide show ...
