A visit to the new Cleethorpes RNLI station was arranged by David. Our guide was Steve. Burton and told us that they are the third busiest station in the UK after London and Blackpool. The new building is very impressive and was paid for by a benefactor as was one the two rescue boats. The latest one is not yet fully commissioned.
Steve explained the working of the station and that nearly all their recuses were from the station and looking right towards the mouth of the Humber. Depending upon the tide it can be 1 to 2 miles before they reach the water.
The constant movement of mud/sand and the channels can make the area very dangerous. People do not realise that channels can rapidly fill up behind them.
The guided was very comprehensive and we thanked Steve (who is now an ex volunteer .
Afterwards we had a fish snd chip supper
Well done to David for organising the event.
