Our lunch time speaker today was Barry accompanied by Pauline. Barry said “ How did I become involved?. It was my dog Charlie that found a “bundle” on the lawn ,which was a poorly hedge hog. “What to do”said Barry . Fortunately he knew somebody and sought their advice . The rest is history and from acorns grow oak trees.
They now have a thriving hedge hog rescue service.Creatures are brought
in ,examined, cleaned(they maybe pregnant or need the vet) fed and watered. They have an individual box lined with newspaper that becomes quite “smelly”!
Their food is cat or dog food. They can be released back into the wild ,but this must be in the area where they were found and are familiar with this habitat.
An ideal weight for a hedge hog is 600G .They are nocturnal creatures and one seen in the daylight could be a female is looking for food for their young. Today we have 95 but it can be 200!
A very interesting talk from someone who is very dedicated.President Mike presented Barry with a cheque for £100.
