Best Futures School

Today’s speakers were Dawn and Rose Best from the Best Futures School, Ayelsby. It is a small school with 15 pupils who have special educational needs.

Dawn and Rose said “after the cuts to money and closure of child centred units it created  a gap in provision. Using  redundancy money we opened this school in 2016 . It is now an independent school”. Referred children are assessed to determine their needs, which can be particular to that child eg communication skills, behavioural problems, ADHD etc.

“Our environment is unique with having outdoor facilities in the countryside, and we  have helped 92 children to date”. 

Following the death of Past President John Spilman members of Grimsby Rotary donated money in lieu of flowers. Rose said "the Spilmans have been very supportive from the start and donated land  to create an outdoor space and a sensory garden. Your donation has been used to purchase 4 fruit trees and a flowering cherry.”

A success story:

A pupil who had been  failing in main stream education, ( disruptive behaviour etc)  calmed down with support to him and his family. He transitioned back to main stream education and is now at Franklin College wanting to do psychology.

It was an interesting and inspiring address.
