Grimsby Bloom

Elaine and Craig gave an update at our lunch time meeting

Today we had a return visit for Elaine Atkinson "Grimsby in Bloom" and Craig. We have supported Grimsby in Bloom for many years and now they are based in the Duke of York Gardens and we regularly support them by doing litter picks along the banks of the River Freshney.

Elaine and Craig informed us of their new project supported by their three pillars:

Community

Environment and

Horticulture.

They have  taken over the redundant “bowling green” and  have many ideas for transforming it with polytunnels, raised beds, bug hotels, nature area, pond, wormery, and tree nursery.

They have  a lot of support from the local community and organise a number of events - eg Easter, environment day and activities for children during the holidays.

Elaine said that they  still participate in the “in bloom" competition (East Midland Division) and this involves the wider Grimsby community.

They have created  a Repair cafe (an idea from the NSPCC, because it is a deprived area) and have eg repaired clocks, sharpened shears, lawnmowers etc.  They received a Civic Award for this development.

Keep up the good work.
