Cruse
Cruse Bereavement Care is a national voluntary funded support service for adults and children who have suffered a loss of a friend or relative. The origin of the name Cruse came from biblical times when widows would display a lighted Cruse (lamp) in their window to show their status.
Volunteers
Nationally there are 5,000 volunteers and 17 in the local region, operating from the local office at St Andrew's Hospice. There have been 436 enquires over the last year from the Grimsby Cleethorpes area.
Referrals are received from Hospitals, Schools, GPs and individuals. Large scale disasters are also covered by the Cruse teams who offer group, family or confidential support.
Counselling
Typically, applicants are provided with six one-to-one sessions spread over a period of four to five months. Trained counselors provide support and some serious cases are referred to professional agencies.
