Clare Strawson - NSPCC
18 Ladies attended the Axle Coffee Morning held at José Carr's. It was an enjoyable and educational morning as Clare Strawson came to speak to us about the work that the NSPCC do in the area. Clare was invited to join the committee approx 30 years ago so she had a lot to tell us.
Parenting Skills
Many Parents have mental health or drug problems and they are helped to look after their Children so they don't have to go into care. Some Parents have not had good parenting themselves so don't know how to care and give love to their own children. Children are taught that it is not right for anyone to touch any part of their body that can be covered by a bathing costume and if someone does they should tell an adult they can trust. Children as young as 6 years are given basic knowledge about depression, anxiety, bipolar and first aid, this is to help them understand their Parents' mood swings.
Invitation
Clare invited everyone to look around the NSPCC Centre at the Freshney Green Primary Care Centre in Grimsby at the open day on the 18th. Michael and I went to the open day and we were very impressed by the work the care coordinators do and their enthusiasm to help the Families.
Donation
Nichola Bull presented Clare with a cheque for £510.00 being the money raised during her year of coffee mornings. Clare thanked her and said it would help them, 80p in every pound is spent on the work they do.
