Robin gave us a brief summary of the services provided by Harbour Place to help homeless persons in the Grimsby Area over the past 23 years. A former NHS Clinic building in Hope street has recently been acquired to provide a night shelter with 15 beds, however this is often oversubscribed.
Robin explained that permanaent accomodation can usually be found but the real issue is the provision of support to ensure that once allocated the residents are able to settle a reasonable lifestyle and not be evicted. Many of these persons have mental health issues or addictions that require separate treatment.
In the future Harbour Place is looking to expand its role to additional locations and are considering taking on the role of landlord for some of the permanent accommodation.
