Past President's Dinner

A report on the Past President's dinner and speaker.

The guest and speaker at the Past President’s Dinner on Friday 18th November

was the immediate Past President Gordon Bulter and his chosen topic was –sincerity. The O.E.D defines sincere as  “free from pretence or deceit”.

Gordon said, in all sincerity, that he had been pleased to be president of the club. (Gordon brought his year forward when there was a gap in candidates).Immediately after leaving office he departed for a surprise holiday in California to celebrate his 70th birthday. However, there were more surprises when he and his wife were joined by members of his family from South Africa and Australia. The party moved to Yosemite Park for a longer holiday.Another case of being sincere in his gratitude for his wife’s  birthday gifts.

Gordon has recently been on Safari in South Africa . We all know that he must have been in the a boy scouts because he is always well prepared for any eventuality in the bush.On this trip he carried  out three recuses of stranded travellers.

On one occasion he pulled a car out of the mud when it had become stuck up  to its axles .Travelling on he found another vehicle stranded in a river bed  so out came the tow  rope and finally, he was able to mend a leaking radiator ,on another ,vehicle with epoxy glue! (Perhaps he should operate a safari rescue service). These travellers had also run out of food! In all three cases the drivers were sincerely grateful for Gordon’s rescue, e mail addresses were exchanged etc as well as gifts of wine. However not one of them has been in contact since the rescue !

To conclude,he said that he was sincerely looking forward to his next adventure in Australia,

As always on this evening the immediate Past President’s speech was thought provoking talk and prompted a lively discussion .It was a most enjoyable evening.
