A report on a litter pick around the Fishing Heritage Centre.

On Saturday 5th March the Rotary Club joined forces with the Grimsby,Cleethorpes and Distrcit Civic Society for a litter pick around the Fishing Heritage Centre. There were twenty three members from both organisations.

Menbers of both groups gathered at the bandstand and were equipped with litter picks and copious black plastic bags bfore setting off in pairs. The areas to be picked included the Council car parks, the surrounding shrubbery,Fishermen's Wharf from Corporation Bridge to  Frederick Ward Way and the seating area near the road bridge.Fortunatlely the weather forecast was wrong and it remained dry but cold.

After two and half hours the teams had collected 35 bags of litter.Items of note included a shopping trolley,a bicycle tyre,an umbrella and many blue plastice gloves! This area had been subjected to a litter pick last year and it was pleasing to note how few supermarket plastic bags there were in the shrubbery. The ban on plastic bags is obviously working. The down side is that there was so much litter, and how irresponsible people are by disposing of bottles and cans in the shrubs.

On behalf of both organisations we would like to thank North East Lincolnshire Council for providing equipment and collecting the full palstic bags at the end of the session.
