A report on the dock tower Abseil.


 

02.07.12 Dock Tower Abseil.

   

This year it was agreed that the annual Dock Tower Abseil would be held in the same week as the Olympic torch was abseiled down the tower on Wednesday 27th June.In addition, we would work in conjunction with Associated British Ports(ABP) to raise money for ABP, who are supporting Immingham 100 legacy foundation(the port of Immingham was opened 100 years ago) and our chosen charities  Doorstep and FLAG.

 

The event was held on Saturday 30th June and Sunday 1 st July.June,this year has turned out to be very mixed weather and unfortunately mainly rain and low temperatures.Saturday morning was no exception with rain followed by gusty winds. President Mike Carr was one of the first to abseil and he had to shelter at the top until it had stopped raining.He was joined by Councillor Ray Sutton.Thereafter it was a fine day.

 

On Sunday morning John Fitzgerald  ABP Port Director Grimsby and his wife abseiled down the tower.As the day progressed the strength of the wind increased and it became colder. Nevertheless all those who came were able to abseil down the Tower.In all  over 70 people participated in the event.

 

I was the last Rotarian down the tower (2.45.pm.) and just made it over the lock gates before they opened to allow the
