What do we do?

Rotary is a volunteer movement of friends for positive change in society at home and abroad. At Derby South:-

• We support Sailability at Swarkestone reservoir so that disabled people can enjoy the freedom of sailing.
• We provide educational resources and scholarships to disadvantaged children in Kenya.
• We make regular financial contributions to – Derbyshire Children’s Holiday Home, Children’s Air Ambulance, The Rotary Foundation, End Polio Now, Shelter Box, Aqua Box
• In recent times we have supported the development of a hospital in Kashmir, Derby Grammer School Kenya project, YMCA starter boxes, Life education Caravans, The Padley Centre, Mickleover Carers, Girl Guides, Sight Support Derbyshire, Prince’s Trust, Canaan Trust, Kid’s Aid Tanzania.

In order to raise the funds to make our support  possible we:-

• Organise a Christmas raffle.
• Organise a Sunday lunch to raise funds for the End Polio Now campaign around Rotary Day.
• Contribute to the End Polio Now campaign as individual Rotarians.
• Organise a bucket collection for End Polio Now around world End Polio Day.
• Hold an annual Easter Egg raffle.
• Organise a Summer raffle.
• Organise an annual classic car show at Carsington Reservoir
• Facilitate Rotary Foundation grants to specific projects.

We provide hands on support to other charities by:-

• Volunteering as helpers at Sailability and Mickleover Carers.
• Volunteering as Poppy Appeal sellers for the Royal British Legion.
• Laying Rotary wreaths in our communities on Armistice Sunday.
• Being available as mentors.

We celebrate as a group at:-

• Our regular pub socials for all members and guests.
• Our Christmas Dinner event.
• Our Anniversary (Charter) evening
• Guest Speaker events
• Rotary District1220, RGBI and Rotary International events.
