I was born and bred in Liverpool but after qualifying as a Solicitor in 1979, I moved to Burton to take up a position as an assistant Solicitor with a High Street practice. I set up my own firm in 1984. I merged my firm with another small practice in the town and several years later we merged with Astle Paterson, a larger practice where I was a Director and head of conveyancing.
During the Covid lock down, I decided it was time for a change of work and life balance in preparation for retirement and after spending 5 years undertaking locum work for several firms in the local area, I retired in October 2025 after 46 years in my profession.
Looking for ways to keep myself busy and active and also wanting to do something useful in the local community, I decided to join Rotary. My other interests include playing bridge which I first learnt to play at University. I play in Derby 2 or 3 times a week and have played for the Derbyshire county team.
I love travelling to new places and still have 1 continent left to tick off my bucket list. (Antarctica was my all-time favourite!) I enjoy reading, baking, spending time with my family (I have 2 daughters and 2 granddaughters), going to the theatre and watching cycling. I qualified as a British Cycling Accredited Marshall in 2022.
