Our Projects

Some projects are expensive: for our biggest project ever, the funding of a haematology ward for outpatients at the Queens Hospital in Burton in 2005 - 6, we raised £85,000.  Sometimes it is just the idea and initiative that matter.  Larger projects often involve working together with Rotary Foundation and clubs abroad.

Currently we are involved with the Carers+ Café and improvements to *Burton railway station, both of which we initiated.  Also with Burton Albion Community Trusts Peace project, and a Schools Project, ‘Engage for Change - Rotary Junior Champions’, which has so far been delivered in 5 local primary schools.

Projects in recent years have included

• *the Auntie project in Cape Town, South Africa;
• *toilets for Bangwe CCAP School in Blantyre;
• *organising a national football competition for the young;
• *the Krizevac project in Malawi;
• equipping a sensory room for Fountains School in Burton;
• equipping a sensory room for Donna Louise children's hospice at Stoke on Trent;
• *creating a sensory garden at Chestnut Grange Extracare Centre in Burton;
• creating an outdoor shelter at Donna Louise Hospice;
• providing a new refrigerated van for Burton Addiction Centre (Langan's) to develop an external catering service;
• providing a minibus for Crest (a local charity that supports disabled young people); developing a prostate cancer screening programme (which fortuitously saved the life of one of our members);
• equipping and decorating a stillbirth room at The Queens Hospital;
• decorating at Scropton Riding School for the disabled.

To these should be added the very considerable sums we have raised or donated for disaster relief, the fight against polio, the YMCA food bank, and Donna Louise Hospice.
