To celebrate Rotary Fun Day 2026, District 1220 negotiated a deal with the Twycross Zoo to allow children sponsored by Clubs in the District to enter at very favourable rates.
Our Club offered the opportunity to Burton Fields School via Lucy Frost, Year 6 teacher and a contact of Ruth James, to send up to 50 children plus accompanying adults to the Zoo. Lucy asked whether we could send the whole of their Year 6, 56 children, as a post-SATS treat, to which we agreed.
56 excited children plus 7 adults left the school via coach at 9:15 on 10 June and arrived at Twycross Zoo as it opened at 10:00. Many of the children had not been to a zoo previously and therefore had not seen the animals “in the flesh” which added considerably to their awe and excitement, evident in the photographs.
The Club had arranged for each child to have a packed lunch which they ate at the zoo, before returning to the school at about 3:00.
According to Lucy, all had a wonderful time and sent their thanks to the Club for granting them the treat.
