DERBYSHIRE DALES ROTARY HELPS LOCAL COMMUNITY GROUPS

During the past 12 months or so, Derbyshire Dales Rotary (DDR) has raised funds to offer considerable support to local community groups. It is delighted to be able to help by donating £500 to each of the following:

Memory Lane – combating isolation and loneliness in the older community.

Formed in 2007, Memory Lane has now been running for 17 years and reaches out to around 50 residents in Darley Dale and the local area. It was Voted the Community Project of the Year by Darley Dale Town Council in 2023. Memory Lane is very reliant on donations to maintain its monthly afternoons of entertainment and refreshments and series of social events through the year

Darley Dale Cricket Club Junior Cricket - encouraging youngsters to be active.

Darley Dale Cricket Club has a long and fine tradition in the local area and has invested time and energy investing in its future by encouraging youngsters from 4 – 15 to enjoy keeping fit and learn the fine arts of cricket. On Sunday mornings over 100 young people, including around 20% girls, are engaged in cricket activities on the club ground in Darley Dale.

Greenaway Well-being Hub – improving mental health and promoting independence  for individuals living with or recovering from mental ill health

Like many charities the Well-being hub on has suffered because of budget cuts. Plans are in place to carry out refurbishment of the premises, reinstate the sensory garden, improve access, and redecorate to improve the surroundings for the clients.

Paddle Peak – improving responsible access to local rivers, lakes and canals.

Paddle Peak is a local charity which aims to care for local stretches of the River Derwent and so protect wildlife and its environment. The charity also teaches local young people to kayak safely and responsibly and encourage them to experience outdoor activity and the importance of caring for the environment.
